Here you will find a gallery of showing some of our custom furniture, lighting and other projects we have completed. Many of these items or similar items are available for purchase in our online store. We are also able to fulfill custom orders and would love to speak with you about your vision for a unique piece.
Pistons & Polish Custom Lighting is a very random and organic process for us and often comes about by one of us saying “ewwww…that could make a cool lamp”! Although many of the vendors for our sockets, bulbs and cloth wire aren’t as local as we would like, we support the little guy whenever possible. As for the raw materials, such as shades and enclosures, they are all locally sourced through flea & antique markets, yard & estate sales or private local sales. For this reason, most custom lighting is produced in either one-off or very limited quantity making them a great and unique accent to any living space. We (meaning Ryan) also have a thing for vintage, Mid-Century electric fans too. So when time permits, we will put our unique Pistons & Polish spin one any given number of fans, but really love the old 1950’s Vornado brand fans for their all-metal construction and unique turbine shape.
Live Edge Furniture is made in house with locally sourced and sustainably harvested woods. Trees downed due to storm damage or municipal trees growing into power lines are common sources for our lumber, much or which would have just ended up in a chipper. We’re also the first number on our friends’ and families’ speed dials when it comes time for them to take down that tree that’s causing them problems, so we have a very personal connection with the source of many of the woods we work with. The “live edge” refers to the barky, rough edge left on most of our lumber. Most people simply cut this off and consider it to be waste material. We find the irregular and natural edge fascinating and whenever possible try to showcase it as part of the piece making each piece that much more unique.
